Why does metalwork fade?
Fading on metalwork occurs when substances like water, pollution, chemicals, or the weather react with the pigment of the paint. The pigmentation of the paint begins to break down, causing the colour to change.
- For example, it has been shown that frequent temperature fluctuations can weaken the pigment by manipulating the colours chemical make-up.
- Sun exposure causing UV damage on the metalwork.
- Any kind of moisture, i.e. rain, condensation, seawater or snow, will alter the makeup of any substance over time; the resin/paint we use at ACS can be specifically ordered in line with client specification and paired with our knowledge, i.e. paint to stand up to water damage.
- Resin is the ingredient within the paint that protects and preserves the colour and adds durability to the product.

How can this be rectified and restored?
The chalky oxidation can be washed off, leaving a clean surface however is now unprotected metal. The team at ACS then use a protective coating to restore and protect the surface and finally bring out an enhanced colour and shine to the surface.
