Sunlight House

Sunlight House is an iconic, Grade II listed building in the very heart of Manchester. It’s one of the most recognisable 20th-century buildings in the city and has over 250,000 sq. ft of office space available across 14 floors.

The client came to us for a full internal and external listed building refurbishment. This included fixing deteriorated window frames, aluminium windows, cable trunking, and other exposed surfaces.

The goal was to fully restore the appearance of this fantastic building, providing long-lasting commercial painting and finishing across all functional elements.

We worked across 13+ floors of the Sunlight House building, carrying out the following works:

  • Full preparation and commercial paint spraying applied to all window frames
  • Abrasive blasting and grit blasting of exposed metalwork
  • On-site spraying of aluminium windows and cable trunking
  • Waterproof liquid roof coating was applied to deliver commercial waterproofing and a long-lasting finish.

Each element of this commercial building refurbishment was meticulously planned and optimised for performance and appearance. A comprehensive commercial painting service meant that window frames were restored to their former glory for years to come. Professional grit blasting also enabled proper adhesion for treatments to all exposed surfaces.

Our on-site spraying gave a consistent, high-quality finish without expensive replacements, and the liquid roof coating system provided essential commercial waterproofing, extending the service life of a roof in a city-centre environment.

All in all, everything was carried out in line with the clients’ specifications and to deliver long-lasting durability and long-term performance.

With a professional team of four, we completed the entire commercial building refurbishment well within the tight timeframe of eight months.

The project presented several challenges that required careful planning and execution by our team. This included the fact that we were working at significant height in a live, city centre environment, which required working from cradles throughout the project.

We also had to manage our working space effectively, given the scope of the project being across 13+ floors, and due to the working environment and location, out-of-hours operations were scheduled. This minimised disruption and ensured we met the client’s requirements.

We successfully improved façade appearance, extended the service life of all coated areas, and provided peace of mind for the building’s occupants.

The client was ecstatic with the outcome, and the contract reinforced ACS Coatings’ reputation for consistency and quality across national projects, no matter the requirements.
